This moderate to strenuous 6.0 mile round trip hike at Sky Meadows State Park (Gap Run Trail to North Ridge Trail to Appalachian Trail) http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/document/data/trail-guide-skymeadows.pdf (Gap Run Trail to North Ridge Trail to Appalachian Trail) goes to the Appalachian Trail and the beautiful Whitehouse Overlook before returning to the parking lot.
Before beginning our hike we will briefly consider the benefits of renewing our mind, body and soul in nature http://www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/2016/01/call-to-wild/ and integrate some of these mindful practices as we make the journey together.
Our hike will begin in the main parking lot ($5 per car parking fee) and continue through incredibly diverse environments ascending the mountain along a rocky creek bed, traversing the Appalachian Trial along a forested ridge and through an expansive mountaintop meadow.
This one of the most beautiful overlooks in our region in the fullness of summertime. We will spend some time soaking in the renewing beauty of this vista before returning to the parking lot.
There will be an option of visiting the garden terrace of the historical Ashby Inn (about 1.5 miles from the park) in nearby Paris http://www.ashbyinn.com/ for a glass of wine or non-alcoholic beverage along with light refreshments.
Please bring plenty of water and a snack to enjoy along the way.
