We will gather at the VDOT lot (first right off of Rt. 7 E or left off of Rt. 7 W on 601 or Blueridge Mountain Rd.) just before 9:30 am. I will be holding a bright orange daypack in the parking lot.

This hike will begin from the VDOT lot immediately off Rt. 7 and Blueridge Mountain Rd. and not from the Bear’s Den Hostel.
It is an out and back, approximately 4 miles round trip total, and includes the Bear’s Den Overlook and end at the tributary bridge at the lovely mountain creek.

We will hike about 3/4 of a mile and take some time to enjoy the fall color at the Bear’s Den Overlook of the Shenandoah Valley. We will continue on the AT down the mountain for another 3/4 of a mile to the Tributary Bridge and beautiful mountain stream. Some people may prefer to stay at the Bear’s Den Overlook while the rest of the group descends to the mountain stream. It will cut the length of the hike in half. We will eat our snack or packed lunch and enjoy some time of meditative reflection here before we head back.

The hike is moderately difficult and includes some up and down rocky sections so wear appropriate shoes, bring a snack and water bottle.

We will conclude with a campfire and S’mores (bring your own supplies – some extra available) at the Bear’s Den Hostel before returning to our vehicles at the VDOT lot.

Cathy Norman and Jackson Martinez will be your hosts. Cathy teaches mindfulness meditation, forest soaking and yoga and lives on Blueridge Mountain Rd. where she and her husband David live. They feel called to share this 11.5 acres for day retreating in nature.
Jackson is passionate about being in nature as a way to decrease stress and renew himself in mind, body and soul. He enjoys sharing these practices with others in intentional community.
