This bi-weekly support group is designed for friends and family members who have a loved one with depression, anxiety or other mental health challenges.
There is no charge for this group as it is an outreach of Imagine Well Being liveimagining.com. Each session will be a stand-alone (you do not need to commit to every session) and friends are welcome to join at any time.
The group is designed to support family and friends with simple tools and skills in the evidenced-based tradition of mindfulness (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. Reduction) https://www.umassmed.edu/cfm/mindfulness-based-programs/mbsr-courses/about-mbsr/history-of-mbsr/ .
The group will provide mindfulness skills and resources clinically proven to reduce stress in mind, body and soul along with the benefit of supportive community. It is not a therapy group but may have therapeutic benefits.
During our 90 minute gatherings we will experience:
Breathing skills to reduce stress
Mindfulness meditation practices
Gentle chair yoga (available to all ages)
Mindful listening skills
Personal reflection time
Resources and tools for daily use
CARE Support group celebrates an unlimited welcome to all people from every sexual orientation, gender identity, and faith tradition, including secular and humanist frameworks.
Cathy Norman is a Hatha Integral Yoga instructor (RYT 200) and has studied mindfulness and meditation practices through her yoga training and the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction 8 week course (U Mass Medical Center). She has studied with Dr. Susan Carol Stone (UVA Mindfulness Center) and other mindfulness experts. Cathy taught for 4.5 years in an Intensive Outpatient Program at Prosperity Eating Disorder Clinic in Herndon. Cathy is the Curator for Imagine Well Being liveimagining.com
June Knesl has been practicing yoga and meditation for over 30 years. June has always felt a call to support people journeying through mental health challenges. June is a registered yoga teacher (RYT 200) and is also certified to teach Chair Yoga. She has been trained as a volunteer with Helpline (a suicide hotline) and has completed Palouse Mindfulness training in the tradition of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction – U Mass Medical Center
Lynn Hegedus has completed training in small group leadership and has spent many years supporting individuals and families journeying with a friend or family member with mental health challenges. She is passionate about the transforming power of compassionate, supportive community as foundational to healthy self-care and ongoing well-being in mind, body and soul
