Compassionate Conversations (formerly Beer, Conversation and Spirituality) will focus on listening, self-awareness, and learning from one another with non-judgment and non-striving. Compassionate conversations are not easy work, and yet we believe it is what the world needs most right now.

Empathy goes beyond concern or sympathy. Empathy is stepping into the shoes of another with the intention to better understand and feel what they are experiencing. It is expressed in our choice to be fully present with someone and listen beyond their words for their feelings and unmet needs. Knowing that at least one other person “gets what I’m going through” is the gift of empathy.

The power of empathy can bridge our “us vs. them” perceptions and lead to new solutions, improved relationships, better strategies for social change, reduction in loneliness, and realization of our shared human needs and oneness. This conversation is about sharing experiences giving, receiving, and observing empathy.

Practicing compassionate conversations is essential to healing our divisions so that we can begin to see that we are one human race agreeing on more than we think. Every month we bring forth topics and questions that provide participants with an opportunity to practice.

We loosely follow the book called Compassionate Listening – An Exploratory Sourcebook About Conflict Transformation. The topics in this book are presented by renowned pioneers in transforming the way the world handles conflict through compassionate conversations. The entire book can be found at http://newconversations.net/pdf/compassionate_listening.pdf

We reserve the 1st 7-8 minutes for participants to join and will start the conversation promptly @ 7:08 pm.
