This contemplative hike is designed to soak in the exquisite beauty of the Bluebells, the Heron nests and the Bald Eagles. We will walk to the waterfall and go a little further up the creek to see a second cascading waterfall just beyond the first one. There are an amazing assortment of spring wildflowers including Trillium along the hillside by the waterfall.

The Herons are very actively making their nests larger and flying back and forth with sticks to hand-off to their partner. I saw both Bald Eagles sitting on the tree and you can see the female sitting in the nest with binoculars.

This hike is on a lovely paved path along the Shenandoah River and then leads into the Rolling Ridge Foundation lands (1,400 undeveloped acres). https://www.su.edu/cool-spring/visitor-information/trails/.

Remember to bring a snack, water and shoes appropriate for some muddiness on the Rolling Ridge trail.

Twin Oaks Winery and Hill High Marketplace off of Rt. 7 (covered wagon) are some lovely places to visit on the way home (if you are heading East).
