A Imagine day retreat designed to strengthen self-awareness by integrating meditative time in nature and evidenced-based mindfulness practice in community. The retreat will be held at Blueridge Summit Retreat on beautiful Mt. Weather and on the Appalachian Trail 30 minutes west of Leesburg.
Imagine Nature and Soul Story Day Retreat will include:
Mindfulness in Nature Primer: A brief introduction to the evidenced-based power of mindfulness meditation including presence through the five senses in nature, deep observation and awareness. See National Geographic “Your Brain on Nature”
Appalachian Trail Hike to Waterfall: This two mile round trip hike will include a nature renewal hike to a beautiful waterfall including time to enjoy your packed lunch and reflect in quiet with a meditative fire beside the creek. Soul Story: We will return to the Retreat Studio for a guided session to briefly review the life stages in your story integrating self-awareness and self-compassion and revisiting your core values, purpose in the beauty of nature.
Bonfire Blessing: We will conclude our day with warm cider around a large fire including some poetry by David Whyte and brief words of blessing and intention.
Please pack a lunch and bring a small snack to share with the group.
Cathy is a Hatha Integral Yoga instructor (RYT 200) and has studied mindfulness and meditation practices through her yoga training and the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course and has studied with Dr. Susan Carol Stone (UVA Mindfulness Center). She is a certified to teach mindful yoga to children and families (Budding Yogis). She also completed training at the Shalem Institute in leading contemplative small groups and retreats. She is currently teaching Hatha Integral Yoga at Prosperity Eating Disorders and Wellness Clinic in Herndon. Cathy is a Virginia Master Naturalist and leads meditative hikes and day retreats on the Appalachian Trail near her home and retreat center on Mt. Weather. She also works part time and volunteers facilitating the various Imagine community gatherings and overseeing the Blueridge Summit Retreat.
Bob is a seasoned mindfulness meditation practitioner who has recently taught a number of mindfulness stress reduction classes that introduce mindfulness and demonstrate the benefits of regular meditation practice. Bob has completed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course (University of Massachusetts Medical Center-Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn) and integrates mindfulness into his commute, profession and relationships. Bob very much enjoys sharing his experience with the “miracle of mindfulness” and showing the positive influence that learning these skills can have on all of our lives.
