Introduction to Mindfulness & Meditation
Suzanne Nixon, EdD, LPC, LMFT
Begins, September 10th for six consecutive Thursdays 7-8:15 pm

This Introduction to Mindfulness & Meditation course is your opportunity to learn the fundamentals, merits and value of mindfulness & meditation, experience a variety of short meditations and begin a meditation practice. Given the challenges of the day, this is an excellent time to develop a contemplative practice and mindful skill sets to manage everyday stress, create a sense of inner peace and calm and learn how to live more mindfully. The teaching style is didactic, interactive and experiential, and all are welcomed, newcomers as well as experienced meditators.

This class is being offered in fulfillment of my practicum requirement for the two year training course I am enrolled, “Teacher Training Certification Course in Mindfulness Meditation”, taught by Dr. Tara Brach and Dr. Jack Kornfield and platformed by Sounds True.

Six-Week Class – In person All welcomed. No experience needed
75-minute class for 6 – 12 participants

Participants must attend every class (except ER’s); waiver must be signed to allow for some segments of the class to be taped (for evaluation by trainers); COVID guidelines in place and waiver of liability signed. End of course – evaluation form completed

Dana based – Buddhist based concept of payment. It is an offering to the teacher, you choose what you can / want to pay, and if you are unable to pay, that is acceptable.

Session 1: The Value of Meditation, Mindfulness and Mindful Presence
Session 2: The Art of Practice, Mindfulness and Breath, Walking Meditation
Session 3: Mindfulness, the Body and Emotions
Session 4: Mindfulness, Thoughts and the Mind
Session 5: Practice of Loving Kindness & Compassion
Session 6: Wise Intention, Embodiment and Daily Practice

Dr. Suzanne Nixon has expert training in counseling, psychotherapy, education, energy medicine, lifestyle wellness and integrative health coaching spanning 35 years, Dr. Nixon’s embraces an Integrative Behavioral Health framework in the treatment and care of individuals, couples and families.

Her academic training in education (Boston University, M.Ed.) and counseling (Virginia Tech, EdD), provided her with a solid foundation in a multitude of counseling theories including psychodynamic, humanistic, reality therapy, family systems and transpersonal. Dr. Nixon pursued advanced training and earned professional certifications in Gestalt Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and training in Post Induction Therapy (a trauma method/approach) with Pia Mellody.
