Kaylor’s Knob Trail from Massanutten Overlook is a 4.7 mile hike. It goes across Green Mountain to Massanutten Mountain. It’s a must do in the winter because you get a good view of both valleys on either side of Green Mountain when the leaves are not on the trees. This is an intermediate hike; very short and easy distance wise, but a little harder because of the rock scrambles so you should have experience completing an intermediate hike. This is not a beginners’ hike. It starts off a gentle trail but the second half is more challenging with rock scrambles and steep peaks. The scrambles are not too difficult, but it is very rocky and you have to be sure footed. It would be very easy to sprain an ankle if not watching your step at all times. Half this trail is extremely rocky. I found this hike fun and a good work out. The hike only took me about 3 ½ hours with stopping for lunch. It is really not a long distance. Good solid description of trail here: https://virginiatrailguide.com/2010/06/03/massanutten-ridge-trail/ Directions to Trail Head, just search for directions to Kaylor’s Knob Trail, Massanutten, VA 22840. It is inside the Massanutten Resort. You must enter the Massanutten Resort through the police station. They will ask you what you are doing there and you just say hiking. Let’s shoot to hit the trail head at 10 AM. It’s a long drive (2 hours plus). We can meet at the church (Crossroads United Methodist Church 43454 Crossroads Drive, Ashburn, VA) at 7:30 AM in case folks want to car pool. There is no charge for entrance to the resort, but it is a long drive.
