**IMPORTANT – PLEASE BE SURE TO READ “WALK INFO” BEFORE YOU RSVP TO THIS EVENT!!**
Lets enjoy a nice leisurely walk on the ANP Woodlands Trail with plenty of time set aside for quiet contemplation and reflection. The Woodlands Trail is located in an area of Algonkian Regional Park that contains some excellent examples old growth trees including a Shumard Oak that is listed in the Virginia Tech big tree database as one of the largest specimens of that particular species in the state of VA. The Woodlands Trail borders both Sugarland Run and the Potomac River providing excellent views of each.

WALK INFO:
While the focus of this walk is the same as previous “leisurely walks” I’ve lead, that being an individuals relationship to the natural world, I’d like to try something a little different this time. Instead of a series of invitations to experience nature this way or that way, I’m going to implement a simple “Golden Rule” if you will for the entire duration of the walk. The Golden Rule is as follows…

*Golden Rule: Participants are welcome to chit chat about anything they wish… as long as the topic of their conversation is about something they experienced with one of their senses in the present moment. Topics that stem from one of the 5 main senses or perhaps one of the senses, beyond the “Big 5”, that are more difficult to perceive are fair game. Topics of conversation that have their origins in the past, the future or in external current events are not allowed for the duration of the walk. That’s it. Fairly simple rule actually… or is it… maybe not so simple:-)

If you’re unwilling to honor the Golden Rule, I humbly request that you not RSVP to this event. Instead, jump in on any other of the events I run that happen to have the word “Hike” in the title. They tend to be more traditional point to point social hiking events.

DIFFICULTY: Very easy

LENGTH: About 2.5 miles

ELEVATION GAIN: None

DURATION: Approximately 2 hours.

POST WALK MERRIMENT:-)

Afterwards, for those that care to, a visit to

The Corner Bakery (https://www.cornerbakerycafe.com/) (Cascades Marketplace, 46290 Cranston St, Sterling) is planned.

ABOUT THE EVENT HOST:

Ron has been a lover of nature and an outdoor enthusiast for the last few decades and back in 2009, left an 18 year career in information technology so he could pursue his dreams and passions in nature and the outdoors on a full time basis. Currently, he works as a Sr. Park Ranger for NOVAParks at Algonkian Regional Park. In addition to his day to day duties, he runs all of the parks guided kayak tours and also started the Algonkian Nature Preserve which is a long term labor of love of his. You can read more about the ANP by going to https://liveimagining.org/ and clicking on the “Journey To Soul” link under the Algonkian Nature Preserve section in the right hand column.
