All are welcome to gather for a time of learning, community and renewal at Mindful Sunday Morning in Bluemont, VA.

We meet at Blue Ridge Summit Retreat. PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR GPS AS IT DOES NOT WORK WELL ON THE MOUNTAIN.  PLEASE USE THE FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS: Take Rt. 7 W past Round Hill and then Bluemont.  You will begin to climb Mt. Weather and see a flashing intersection sign.  Turn left from Rt. 7 W onto Blueridge Mountain Rd.  Travel about five miles until you see the FEMA Emergency Management facility.  Once past the FEMA fences, travel approximately a mile, and look for the third mailbox on the right.  There will be an Imagine banner hanging there to mark the property.  

Blue Ridge Summit Retreat is in the newly renovated Imagine Studio and on the land.  The property is located on Mt. Weather about 30 minutes from Leesburg and 45 minutes from Ashburn. The Appalachian Trail is 8 minutes away by car.

You will enjoy a mixture of forest with boulders and a small pond and a mowed meadow with fruit trees, blueberry bushes and a lovely grape arbor.  There is a walking trail with contemplative, quiet areas with benches for sitting and observing the beauty of the mountain.  The property backs up to 110 undeveloped acres so the deep quiet of the mountain is an important part of the experience.

There will be an ongoing Mindful Sunday Morning  offering twice monthly throughout the year. 

During our time together we will learn about and experience evidence-based mindful stress reduction practices and engage in some simple Hatha Yoga practices –  breath and stretching (no mat needed).  

We will also enjoy science-based nature education to help us be more aware and mindful of what flora and fauna we are seeing in every season of the year.  

From time to time we will experience mindful art activities that reinforce attention to the present moment without judgment or comparison to others.    

Light refreshments (mindful eating) and community conversation are important elements of every gathering.  

Cathy has studied mindfulness and meditation practices through her training as a Hatha Integral Yoga instructor (RYT 200), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction 8 week course Studied with Cynthia Moore (UVA  Medical Center) and Dr. Susan Carol Stone (UVA Mindfulness Center).  She also completed training at the (Shalem Institute, Bethesda, MD) in leading contemplative small groups and retreats.  

Nan McCarry grew up on a farm in Loudoun. She has a master’s degree in geography and did her research in Guatemala on home gardens. She is interested in phenomena at the intersection of nature and culture, such as environmental history, agroecosystems, sustainability, and soils.  She is a Virginia Master Naturalist and volunteer Audubon at Home ambassador. For several years she taught environmental education to children. She is currently facilitating a sustainable gardening class called Landscape for Life.  A lifelong learner, Nan organized and taught “Cosmic Evolution Story,” a series that explores ways of finding meaning within the scientific story of existence. She has practiced yoga for 20 years.
