We will gather on Saturday, June 24th from 10:30-2:30 pm at Blueridge Summit Retreat on Mt. Weather to celebrate passage from spring to the fullness of summer (Summer Solstice arrives June 21).
We will engage in mindfulness practices we call Well Being In Nature. These evidenced-based practices invite seasonal self-awareness, calmness and renewal in mind, body and soul. Watch this 2 minute video by National Geographic called “This is Your Brain on Nature”
Our retreat will include:
a. Well Being in Nature Primer – we will have a brief overview of this mindfulness practice concluding with a Well Being Hike on the property.
b. Summer Solstice Primer – we will awaken wonder and awe as we enjoy a brief time of experiential science learning with tennis balls and the tilt of the earth.
c. Well Being in Nature Invitation – experiencing a time of silence and reflection on the beautiful lawn, in the forest or in the studio resting in the beauty of the retreat property.
d. Mindful Eating in Nature – we will begin our time of enjoying our packed lunches on the deck with a simple tea ceremony made from the organic lemon verbena on the property.
f. Brief video and discussion by Dr. Rick Hanson (author of Buddha’s Brain Hardwiring Happiness and more) on mindful self-care
g. S’mores and Summertime Blessing around a campfire
This workshop is offered at no charge as a gift of service in our community and region by Imagine (liveimagining.com). We believe the world is change by increasing self-awareness, service and calmness on person, family and community at a time.
Cathy is a Hatha Integral Yoga instructor (RYT 200) and has studied mindfulness and meditation practices through her yoga training and the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course and has studied with Dr. Susan Carol Stone (UVA Mindfulness Center). She is a certified to teach mindful yoga to children and families (Budding Yogis). She also completed training at the Shalem Institute in leading contemplative small groups and retreats. She facilitates the Imagine Well Being initiative and Well Being workshops for Prosperity Eating Disorders and Wellness Clinic in Herndon and at her private studio near Bluemont, VA. Cathy is also a Virginia Master Naturalist and includes images from the natural world as part of each yoga practice.
