When’s the last time someone read a book to you? You may be surprised at how very comforting it is during this strange time of isolation. We’ll gather for companionship and to share what spoke to us (or not) in our listening/reading.

This gathering will be a Zoom meeting. When you RSVP, the meeting link will become visible under “Online event” in the right hand column of the description.

Audio book for May 7: We’ll be finishing with “The Plot Against America” by Phillip Roth.

Audio book for May 14: “The Pioneers” by David McCullough. NOTE: This book is only available on Libby/Overdrive. Currently, there are no copies available. But they have 12 Ebooks and 11 Audiobooks so the wait time may be short. We all need to get on hold for the book right away, and we’ll see how it goes.

The plan is to meet once per week. For a short book, one week may be enough. For longer books, we may need multiple weeks. We’ll see how it works out. We’ll take turns selecting a book.

We’ll take advantage of the large, free selection of audiobooks available on Hoopla through Loudoun County Public Library. There is an unlimited number of “copies” of the same book on Hoopla. We may also try to take advantage of Libby/Overdrive. However, this service offers a limited number of copies of each book so the logistics for a group are more difficult.

All you need is your library card. Instructions are provided at https://library.loudoun.gov/SERVICES/Online-Resources (scroll down to the Download and Stream section). If you have trouble getting things set up, please call the library at 703-777-0323: Monday-Thursday, 10 am-9 pm; Friday-Saturday, 10 am-5 pm; and Sunday, 1-5 pm.

If you sign up and find that your plans have changed, please update your RSVP as soon as possible.
