Since this event is posted to both the Imagine and “Lets Take a Hike…” meetup groups, there are currently 26 folks signed up for this event. So to keep it from getting unwieldy, I decided to close it to new RSVPs. Please check out any of the other events currently scheduled and more are on the way!
Lets hike from Riverbend Park to the Potomack Lakes Sportsplex which is located right in front of Algonkian Regional Park, a distance of about 9 mostly flat miles along the Potomac River.
There are a few sections that jog up and down a bit to avoid cliffs. While this section of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail is pretty much right in our backyard and still part of “Suburbia”, it is regarded as one of the finest sections of the PHT in NVA. A real treat if you’ve never done it before.
We’d meet at the Sportsplex and run a shuttle to Riverbend then hike back to the Sportsplex. Would need to retrieve shuttle vehicles at the end of the hike.
Anyone that would like to get together for a late afternoon lunch after that hike, let me know. The company would be most appreciated!
Ron Meister has been a lover of nature and an outdoor enthusiast for the last few decades and back in 2009, left an 18 year career in information technology so I could pursue my dreams and passions in nature and the outdoors on a full time basis. Currently, I work as a Sr. Park Ranger for NOVAParks at Algonkian Regional Park. In addition to my day to day duties, I run all of the parks guided kayak tours and also started the Algonkian Nature Preserve which is a long term labor of love of mine.
