Serenity Hatha Yoga for Stress Reduction will be an ongoing class offered on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-8:45 pm.
There is no charge for the class as it is a gift from the Crossroads community to our local community. We do encourage that you offer an act of unseen service as a way to bless others and “pay it forward”.
This Hatha Yoga class will include postures, breath work and meditation with a focus on overall wellness and wholeness of body, mind and spirit now clinically recognized in improving over health and stress reduction.
The class is designed to bring mindful and compassionate attention to the body and the breath as designed within the clinical and evidenced-based Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction tradition (University of Massachusetts Medical Center).
The class will benefit beginners and advanced yoga practitioners with a specific focus on mindful awareness of the body and breath integrated as a moving meditation.
The Serenity Prayer/intention is offered each week at the beginning of the yoga practice as a symbol of letting go of those things we cannot control. “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Cathy is a Hatha Integral Yoga instructor (RYT 200) and has studied mindfulness and meditation practices through her yoga training and the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction 8 week course. She has also studied with Cynthia Moore (UVA Medical Center) and Dr. Susan Carol Stone (UVA Mindfulness Center). She is a certified to teach mindful yoga to children and families (Budding Yogis). She also completed training at the Shalem Institute in leading contemplative small groups and retreats. She is currently teaching Hatha Integral Yoga at Prosperity Eating Disorders and Wellness Clinic in Herndon and at her private studio near Bluemont, VA. Cathy is also a Virginia Master Naturalist and includes images from the natural world as part of each yoga practice.
Jami Obermayer has been practicing meditation and mindfulness for the past 8.5 years. She has taken the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course and teaches meditation classes. Jami brings a gentle and strong meditative presence to her yoga teaching. She is a committed yoga practitioner and is currently completing the 200 hour RYT.
Jenny Bailey brings a passion and commitment to meditation, yoga and the value of transformative community as a spiritual journey…inward, together and outward. She has been practicing transformative self-reflection and acts of service in community for over 20 years.
