Serenity Hatha Yoga will be an eight week class offered on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-10:30 am and Tuesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 pm beginning October 8th (Wednesday mornings) and October 7th (Tuesday nights) at Crossroads United Methodist Church.
There is no charge for the class as it is a gift from the Imagine community at Crossroads. We do encourage that you offer an act of unseen service as a way to bless others and “pay it forward”.
This class will include postures, breath work and meditation with a focus on overall wellness and wholeness of body, mind and spirit. It is a gentle practice and will benefit beginners and advanced yoga practitioners. The class has been designed with specific, gentle postures and breathing exercises that are now clinically recognized in improving over health and wellness. The Serenity Prayer will be offered each week at the beginning of the yoga practice as part of our time together. “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.”
All people are welcome without discrimination. The focus will be on spirituality and not on religion.
Cathy is a Hatha Integral Yoga instructor (RYT 200) and has studied mindfulness and meditation practices through her yoga training and the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction 8 week course. She has also studied with Cynthia Moore (UVA Medical Center) and Dr. Susan Carol Stone (UVA Mindfulness Center). She also completed training at the Shalem Institute, Bethesda, MD) in leading contemplative small groups and retreats. She is currently teaching Hatha Integral Yoga at Prosperity Eating Disorders and Wellness Center in Herndon and monthly at Oatlands Historic House and Gardens (Nature and Yoga at Oatlands). Cathy is also a Certified Virginia Master Naturalist and images from the natural world as part of each practice.
