This beautiful hike will celebrate the exquisite spring bluebells and wildflowers along the Shenandoah River leading into the Rolling Ridge Foundation lands (1,400 undeveloped acres)!
The hike is rated as moderate includes a walk along the Shenandoah River and then into the forest of the Rolling Ridge Foundation lands. https://www.su.edu/cool-spring/visitor-information/trails/ with inclines leading to the Appalachian Trail.
We will stop at the waterfall along the way for a snack and a time of contemplation of the sound of the waterfall and the delicate wildflowers carpeting the forest floor.
We will pass a Blue Heron rookery (spectacular) and a Bald Eagle nesting site along the way. You may want to bring a pair of binoculars. Remember to bring a snack, water and shoes appropriate for some muddiness on the Rolling Ridge trail.
Please look at the link for directions and descriptions of this beautiful area. https://www.su.edu/cool-spring/visitor-information/maps/
Twin Oaks Winery and Hill High Marketplace off of Rt. 7 (covered wagon) are some lovely places to visit on the way home (if you are heading East).
