“Today I have grown taller from walking with the trees.” Karle Wilson Baker
This is a beautiful hike with some new trail experiences including the current and Old Appalachian Trail. We will walk at a moderate pace and enjoy the very early emerging signs of spring along the way. Some songbirds have migrated back to the area and this is a great place to see birds.
This 5 mile round trip hike is rated “moderate” by Sky Meadows State Park but includes a steady climb up to the Whitehouse Overlook. We will begin on the North Ridge Trail and turn right when we intersect the Ambassador Whitehouse Trail. When we come to the Whitehouse Overlook we will spend some time in quiet contemplation enjoying the extraordinary beauty of this expansive vista.
We will continue on the Whitehouse Trail until it intersects with the Appalachian Trail. We will take a left on the historic old Appalachian Trail and enjoy this lovely ridge top area before we return back by way of the scenic Potomac Overlook trail.

Please dress in layers and bring a snack/pack a lunch and plenty of water.
We will meet in the parking lot by the historic area and I will have my orange backpack. There are restrooms available in the historic area and you may want to allow time to visit the facilities before the hike.
I look forward to sharing time together as we “grow taller with the trees”.
