We will enjoy the springtime welcome of “mother earth” on Mother’s Day as we gather at the lower Bear’s Den parking lot for this 4 mile round trip hike.

We will hike to the beautiful mountain stream to enjoy the incredible colors of spring and some reflective time listening to the water and wildlife. I hope we might find some Mountain Laurel still in bloom along the way.

We will stop at the Bear’s Den Hostel side lawn for some meditative reflections on nature and visit the beautiful Bear’s Den Overlook to enjoy the vista together before heading back to the parking lot.

There is an option to soak in a lovely view of the Shenandoah Valley from the open decks of the Twin Oaks Winery just across Rt. 7 before they close at 6 pm. There are snacks and non-alcoholic beverages available.

Cathy Norman lives with her husband, David, on Mt. Weather near Bear’s Den and the Appalachian Trail at Blueridge Summit Retreat. She loves to guide hikes and revisit exquisitely beautiful places in this part of the Blueridge mountains during the four seasons of the year. She is a yoga teacher (RYT 200) and a mindfulness meditation instructor. Cathy is also a Virginia Master Naturalist
