The fall color should be at it’s height for this 5.5 mile round trip hike starting at Sky Meadows State Park (near Upperville) to the Appalachian Trail and the beautiful Whitehouse Overlook. Our hike will begin in the main parking lot ($5 per car parking fee) and continue through incredibly diverse environments including ascending the mountain along a rocky creek bed, traversing the Appalachian Trial along a forested ridge and ascending to rest at a beautiful mountainside meadow before returning to our cars. We will spend some timer here enjoying a snack and a few moments of silence as we soak in the beauty of this expansive view of the rolling hills and farms of the Virginia Piedmont.
Please bring plenty of water and a snack to enjoy along the way. The lovely Ashby Inn is about 1.5 miles from the park and has a lovely terrace with wine and light refreshments as a post hike option http://www.ashbyinn.com/.
This is a moderately challenging hike with some rocky sections and uphill climbs.
