Ikebana – Very practically, Ikebana is a Japanese art of small floral (or other nature forms) arrangement. Yet, I have come to see it as so much more. For me, it is both an art form and, more importantly, a meditative practice from start to finish.
During this practice, we will cultivate non-striving, non-judgment, and beginners’ attitudes as we enjoy the beauty of what speaks to our body, mind, and soul.
We will also learn the art of Ikebana related to mindfully connecting our inner being with nature. We are not separate from nature; we are nature, and Ikebana can help us make this essential connection as we enjoy our work of art throughout the day/week.
Ikebana is not about perfection; it’s about being in the moment and expressing your inner self through the gifts of nature.
To help you prepare, I will share some Ikebana arrangements that I have created and give some further instructions to all who sign up.
WHAT TO BRING:
• A kenzan, also called a spiky frog, is a specific device used in
Ikebana’s Japanese art for fixing flowers in a container. You can
purchase a spiky frog at Amazon and also Michaels. One thing I
learned is the closer the spikes, the better
• A small, short Ikebana bowl to hold the spiky frog of your choice –
You can buy these at the Dollar Store
• A small bunch of fresh-cut flowers
Dave has been enjoying Ikebana as a meditative practice for ten years. He has been practicing contemplation in many forms for over 20 years. It brings Dave joy to share various mindful practices with the Imagine Well Being community. Ikebana is one way Dave connects to nature and helps others discover a mindful way to be creative and awake in the moment.
