Mindful Spirituality

mindful-spirituality1To describe the concept of mindful spirituality we have combined the words “mindful” with “spirituality”.    When we gather we recognize the attitudes important to mindfulness with a focus on:  non-judgment, open awareness, patience, trust, gratitude, generosity and beginners mind.

  • Attributes and qualities such as compassion and forgiveness are often described as spiritual and yet are widely valued and seen in every community and culture.
  • Attributes, qualities, virtues and values all described as spiritual can be celebrated in people who do and do not believe in a higher power or God.
  • Virtues and values considered to be spiritual are found in almost every religious tradition but are not exclusive to any particular faith expression, denomination or sect.
  • When we gather together we cultivate the expression of mindful spirituality recognizing the qualities that inspire us to cultivate inner values and virtues that are expressed in our outward actions, practices and relationships.

The Tree of Contemplative Practices:  Understanding the Tree and It’s Origins

The Tree of Contemplative Practices is an illustration shared by Center for Contemplative Mind in Society http://www.contemplativemind.org/about/team.

On the Tree of Contemplative Practices, the roots (communion and connection) symbolize the two intentions that are the foundation of all contemplative practices. The roots of the tree encompass and transcend differences in the religious traditions from which many of the practices originated, and allow room for the inclusion of new practices that are being created in secular contexts.
